Empowering people to lead happier, healthier lives through participating in music.

Welcome to Musical Connections

We run participatory music sessions and projects for older, isolated and vulnerable people in care and community settings across York. We also run a large programme of intergenerational events and activities, which bring together our beneficiaries with local schoolchildren and students. We provide free transport for anyone who needs it, and are supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.

MOVE TO MUSIC – Join Our Big Give Challenge

This March, Musical Connections is taking part in Arts for Impact Week with Big Give - a national campaign where every donation is doubled.

To celebrate, we’re inviting our community to take part in Move to Music, a week-long challenge to travel 1,250 kilometres together.

From 17–24 March, supporters, participants, volunteers and friends can walk, dance, wheel or move in any way they like - every kilometre helping us reach our collective goal while raising vital funds for our music groups and choirs.

Our aim:
1,250 kilometres. £1,250. One Musical Family.

The week will finish with a celebration walk on Sunday 22 March (2–4pm) at the beautiful York Racecourse, where everyone is welcome to come together and complete the final stretch.

All donations made during Big Give Arts for Impact Week (17–24 March) will be matched pound for pound, meaning your support goes twice as far.

WALKING IN THE AIR – A Recent Highlight

Walking in the Air was our special Christmas performance for 2025, bringing together participants from across the Musical Connections community - including our regular groups, local schools and intergenerational partners.

Recorded especially for the festive season, the film captures the magic, togetherness and quiet wonder of making music at Christmas. It celebrates voices coming together across generations and reflects the heart of what we do every week: creating welcoming musical spaces where everyone can take part, feel heard and share something special.

This project was particularly meaningful as we partnered with Global’s Make Some Noise as part of their Big Christmas Chorus.

We hope this performance continues to bring a sense of warmth and joy, and serves as a reminder of the power of singing together.

Musical Connections is a registered charity number 1165993.
